Building Healthy Communities
At Blue Cross, we are deeply committed to helping our members lead healthier lives, and through corporate citizenship, we extend that commitment to the communities where they live and work, all across Massachusetts.
Over the past several years, we’ve collaborated with community partners and national experts to take an in-depth look at how we can prioritize our corporate citizenship work to have the greatest possible impact. The result is a refreshed vision we call Healthy Living. It has three interrelated components:
What does Healthy Living look like in practice? The stories in this report highlight a few great examples from our community partners. Thanks to their work:
- A retiree can anticipate the arrival of a converted school bus that brings fresh produce to his low-income neighborhood.
- Elementary school kids can kick-start the day with brain-boosting cardio games and jumping jacks.
- A construction worker gets to chat with a local farmer about her amazing cheese selection before heading home with the makings of a great dinner. And much more!
Our approach to corporate citizenship is creating strong and meaningful partnerships through three strategic levers of change: investing in nonprofit community organizations; engaging Blue Cross associates in community activities and causes they care about; and conducting our business in an environmentally sustainable way.
